Meadow moth, Loxostege sticticalis L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is one of the most serious polyphagous insect pests in the north of China. But it happened in lawn in Changsha, Hunan province. To find out the occurring instance about meadow moth in lawn in Changsha, the investigations and researchs were carried through in the paper. The present paper summarized the rather systematical researchs on the over-winter meadow moth, the development and growth of meadow moth, the population dynamics and the environmental factors to the meadow moth, and the prevention and cure of meadow moth. Then, the reason of occurring and the development and growth of meadow moth were discussed in Changsha, and the relatively ideal pesticides were filtered from six deferent pesticides. The major progress obtained from these studies are summarized as follows:1. The over-winter cardinal number of meadow moth was very small in lawn in Changsha area, and they were a number of meadow moths coming from other places, not from the Changsha area. The occurring degree of meadow moth mostly rested with the quantity of meadow moths that come from other places.2. There were two generations every year, and the phenomena of generation superposition in Changsha. The time of breakage was comparatively mass, mostly between the last ten-day of a month of June with that of August. The climate of Changsha suited for the development and growth of meadow moth.3. On the basis of the survey of ovipositing, spawn growth , feeding behavior and the ability of fighting cold about larval meadow moth, the infection of survivance and eclosion of pupa of meadow moth by the deferent soil humidity, the mensuration of biological characteristic at the thing of their deferent density, we analyzed the relations of the environmental character of Changsha and the biological characteristic...
