Alternate partial root-zone irrigation (APRI) is newly high-efficient water saving technique. Three pot experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of APRI on the physiological characteristics, growth, plant height, leaf area, dry matter accumulation, water use and nutrient use of sweet corn (Zea mays L.) and lichee (Litchi chinensis Sonn.) under different fertilization and water condition. Three irrigation methods, i.e. conventional irrigation (CI), alternate partial root-zone irrigation (APRI) and partial root drying (PRD), and two irrigation levels, i.e. lower irrigation water (45% ~55% θf, W1) and higher irrigation water (70%~80% 8θf, W2), were designed for all pot experiments. Two fertilization leverls, i.e. no fertilization and fertilization were designed for Experiment 1. Two fertilization methods, i.e. fixed fertilization at one side with half fertilization (SF) and even fertilization (EF) were designed for Experiment 2. And two fertilization levels, i.e. lower fertilization and higher fertilization were designed for Experiment 3. The main results are outlined as follows:(1) Compared with CI, APRI greatly reduces transpiration rate, and...
