There were 36 Japonica cultivars planted and introduced in Shandong province recent years which were selected in this study. Panicle types were classified by cluster analysis method, and rice quality were compared according to the classification and parts of panicle by ANOVA method. Results were as following.1,By cluster analysis of rice panicle traits,36 japonica cultivars are divided into three types -the tight type, the medium type and the disperse type. Analyzed by ANOVA method, the means of five traits of panicle- weight of panicle, filled grain number, primary branch number, secondary branch number and panicle neck diameters, were significant and can be major panicle traits to classify rice panicle types.2,The rice quality analysis indicated: there was no significantly difference between typeâ… and typeâ…¡in each rice quality indices. At the 0.05 level , MR/HR and PC were significantly different between typeâ… and typeâ…¡/typeâ…¢, and typeâ…¡/typeâ…¢were superior to typeâ… .3,The rice quality of different parts of panicle analysis indicated: the upper was equivalent to the medium , but they were superior to the lower .
