The purpose of this experiment was to select the salt- tolerance varieties of tomato derived from hybrids of cultured and wild tomato which were suited to be cultured in salt area of yellow river delta. At spring in 1998, thirty varieties of tomato were introduced into from Shandong teacher-training university. Qishiman, one kind of hard-salt-resistant and little-fruit tomato variety, and Yuenong No.2, one kind of middle-fruit variety were interspecies crossed first, and then make 5-9 era self-cross and backcross between the hybrid progeny, formed this thirty varieties.1.The results of salt-resistant filtration in middle-saline soil experiment showed that nine of the thirty varieties adapted to the soil of this area which concluded 0.3% salt, but the other 21 varieties were dead. And then experim- ents of the rate of seeds germination, potted plant and field plant culture under different concentration of salt solution in these nine varieties were conducted.2. The results of the germination rate experiment showed the rate of relative salt injury of every variety were lower when the seeds were saturated in 0.5% salt solution. However, the rate of relative salt injury of every variety and the difference of salt resistance among every variety increased greatly when they were saturated in 1.0% salt solution. Among those, A14, A30, A15 and A28 appeared lower rate of relative salt injury.3. Irrigated until flowering and fruiting periods with different concentra- tion of NaCl solution in potted plant, the results showed that over-ground bio- mass and yield were decreased, and with the concentration of salt solution increased, the yield declined faster than before. However, the injuries of salt to every variety were different: sensitivity of A15, A17, A28 and A30 to salt was relative lower, showed that they had relative higher salt-resistance. The output of A17 declined 10.8% when irrigated with 0.8% salt solution.4. The manifest trends of salt-resistance in every variety under field plant were closed to potted plant. The results of A14, A15, A17 and A28 were preferable. The average survival rate of A14 was 70%, and its growth...
