In this research, 40 Festuca arundinacea cultivars were collected from in various location at home and abroad. Overall evaluation of drought resistance of 40 cultivars was made by testing morphological indexes of height,leaf area, shoot dry matter, root dry matter, root/shoot, survival. And 6 cultivars of different drought resistance selected from 40 cultivars. On the basis of the relative permeability of cell membrane and photosynthetic rate of leaves, major researched the charge characteristic of the matter of osmotic adjustment and the water physical of 6 Festuca arundinacea cultivars under drought stress, illustrated the physical mechanism of drought resistance of Festuca arundinacea. The main results were showed as following:1. Growing development was limited under water stress. The height, leaf area of 40 cultivars were dropped different degree in comparing those contrast. Shoot dry matter and root dry matter were limited in different degree depending on the tested genotypes. Root/shoo were dropped in comparing those contrast. The positive correlation between synthesis drought resistance and height, leaf area, shoot dry matter, root dry matter, root/shoot et al morphological indexes.2. The survival was a important index of identification of Festuca arundinacea cultivars. The positive correlation survival and overall drought resistance of Festuca arundinacea was significant. And there were intimate correlation between survival and other indexes.3. The ratio of the relative water content and the keep water rate of leaves were declined in drought period. Its range of declined were increased with the extent of drought time. After watered again, the relative water content and the keep water rate of leaves recovered. The difference was not significant among the cultivars.4. The praline content and the soluble sucrose content of leaves were increased under drought stress in 6 cultivars. The response of the praline content was very rapid to drought and there was greatness of the change range of the praline content. The correlation between the praline content and the rate of overall drought resistance of them was not significant. However, the correlation between the soluble sucrose content and the rate of overall drought resistance of Festuca cultivars was significant.
