Utilizing foreign germplasm was an important way which to broad genetic basis and resolves the narrow heredity for Chinese maize germplasm. Study on the genetic characteristic of improved lines which can broad temperate maize genetic basis, found new heterotic patterns, resolve the back and force situation, overcome the obstacle of high and super- high yield breeding, provide the technique guarantee for the sustainable development of Chinese maize production.In aspect of combining ability inbred W29 and C02 had higher relative general combining ability in yielding character other inbreds had lower GCA.The materials including improved maize lines and basic maize inbred lines of the forth-temperate system in my study. The NC Ⅱ designs was adopted in this experiment. Studied on the heterotic performance and genetic characteristic of the important characters in subtropical improved lines, such as yield, plant height, ear height, stem diameter, tassel branch number, growth period, kernel length, 100-grain weigh, and so on.The following were the results of my study.The result of the incomplete diallel cross experiment showed that the kernel weight per plant namely ear kernel weight was the highest in heterosis of all characters. The heterosis of the experiments was 151.7%In aspect of heterotic pattern ,we regard PN group × Ludahonggu group, PN group× Tangsipingtou ,Reid group × Ludahonggu group, Reid group × Tangsipingtou group, Lancast group × Ludahonggu group,Lancast group × Tangsipingtou group as six heterotic patterns. In breeding it is even more practicality and according with the breeding fact.In aspect of genetic relectionships, according to the result of the group incomplete diallel cross experiment and former studys and breeding practice that we judged Ji1285 and Ji1872 has near genetic relectionships with Mo17, and C02 has near genetic relectionships with C8605-2, and Ji5918 has near genetic relectionships with 599-20. W29 has non - periodical of maize inbred lines of the fifth temperate system.In aspect of heritability, the result of the incomplete diallel cross experiment showed that the narrow heritabilits of ear row number were over 70%, and the narrow heritabilits of plant height, ear height, ear width, 100-grain weight, ear row number,...
