Part oneThe study of3-megapixel and5-megapixel monitors in imaging quality on high-and low-resolution breast phantom imagesPurpose:To evaluate the influence of3-and5-megapixel medical professional monitors in breast imaging quality by comparing the test result of phantom exposed at high and low resolution digital mammography.Materials and Methods:CDMAM3.4(contrast detail mammography) phantom was exposed at high(70μm) and low(100μm) resolution digital mammography respectively. Four radiologists and two technicians evaluated the phantom X-ray images at the standard and magnification display modes. The minimum diameter(mm) of every row (thickness μm) was recorded, and IQF(Imaging Quality Figure) was calculated. The paried/test was used to compare the data.Results:(1) Using low resolution breast imaging data, the imaging details display capabilities were similar in the3M and5M medical professional monitors, whether standard or magnification display mode(P>0.05).(2) Using high resolution breast imaging data, the minimum diameter was observed by5M monitor (0.130±0.000mm) less than by3M monitor(0.155±0.012mm), P=0.004, and5M monitors IQFinv value was significantly higher than3M (P=0.036) at standard display mode. At magnification display mode, the minimum diameter which were observed by both5M and3M monitors were equal (0.125±0.012mm),5M monitors IQFinv value was higher than3M, but there was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05).(3)Whatever the resolution images and monitors of combination, the imaging quality at magnification display mode was superior at standard display mode (P=0.010).Conclusion:High resolution breast imaging data with5M monitor can obtain high quality images. Using magnification display mode can improve the imaging details display capabilities to a certain extent. The study of3-megapixel and5-megapixel monitors in detecting micro-calcification on high-and low-resolution breast imagesPurpose:Using low (100p. m), and high (70μm) resolution image data to evaluate the3-and5-megapixel medical professional monitors in displaying microcalcification in mammary gland.Materials and Methods:A retrospective study was performed in low, and high resolution data with100cases (40microcalcification cases and60normal cases), respectively. Two doctors, one junior, and the other senior, reviewed all the images without knowing the clinical data and histology, and their rate of recognition microcalcification in different monitors were calculated, the areas under the ROC curve (AUC) were compared. Finally, the interpretation consistency of them was assessed by Kappa analysis.Results:(1) In the low resolution data group, the two doctors’recognition rate of the microcalcification were very similar in the3M and5M medical professional monitors (P=0.451and0.559). In the high resolution group, the senior doctor’s recognition rate in the5M monitor was significantly higher than in the3M (P=0.022), while the junior’s recognition rate had no significant difference (P=0.141).(2) The two doctors’interpretation consistency in5M monitor was better than in3M, especially when the high resolution detector matching the5M monitor, the interpretation of the two doctors had extremely great consistency (K=0.862).Conclusion:High resolution breast images with5M monitor has more advantages in microcalcification detecting. Part threeThe study of3-megapixel and5-megapixel monitors in diagnosing micro-calcification on high-and low-resolution breast imagesPurpose:To evaluate the influence of3-and5-megapixel medical professional monitors in detecting micro-calcifications on high-and low-resolution breast images.Materials and Methods:A retrospective study was performed in low-and high-resolution data with60cases (30carcinomas and30mastopathia with calcium deposition). Two doctors (junior, and senior, respectively) estimated the detection rate of the micro-calcifications and the malignant possibility, without knowing the clinical data and histology. The detection rate of them was assessed by chi-square test, and the malignant possibility was tested by analysis of variance.Results:(1) In the detection rate of the micro-calcifications, the two doctors’detection performance of breast micro-calcifications were very similar in the3M and5M medical professional monitors (P>0.05) in the low resolution data group, while in the high resolution group, the senior doctor’s detection rate on the5M monitor was significantly higher than that on the3M (100%vs90%,P=0.027), while the junior’s detection rate had no significant difference (98.3%vs93.3%, P=0.364);(2) In the interpretations of malignant possibility of the micro-calcifications, the two doctors’interpretations were superior on5M monitors to the3M ones, but the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). And the Az values between the two doctors also have no significant difference. Conclusion:High resolution breast images with5M monitor has more advantages in microcalcification detecting, but the difference of two monitors was not statistically significant in the interpretations of malignant possibility of the micro-calcifications.
