[Objective]Knee osteoarthritis is a common clinical disease caused by a group of diverse causes. It bases on articular cartilage degeneration with joint edge osteoarthritis, and accompanied by intra-articular synovial joint and soft tissue pathology. This disease often leads to arthritis, such as knee pain, swelling and effusion, functional limitations. It is a degenerative joint disease, as well as the most common form of arthritis in the elderly. According to statistics analysis, the osteoarthritis patients have been as high as 3%, this intermediate with knee osteoarthritis accounted for the majority of. Osteoarthritis of the knee with the person’s age is closely related with the age increasing incidence. The aging phenomenon in our country at present is more obvious, so the elderly suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee problems will be more serious, the urgency and seriousness is self-evident. Features of Pressing& Moving Therapy are the manipulations of pressing and moving. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of Pressing& Moving Therapy to improve the condition of knee osteoarthritis, to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve pain, to improve the quality of life of patients, as well as to shorten treatment course of knee osteoarthritis. In order to find an intuitive and effective way to treat osteoarthritis of the knee, we also do prognostic evaluation with WOMAC scale and evaluate the forecast accuracy through the comparison between the results before and after the treatment.[Methods]By reviewing the literature, we summarized the perspective of ancient and modern Chinese experts on knee osteoarthritis pathogenesis and treatment, clinical research progress and mechanism of the Traditional Chinese Medicinal treatment of KOA, and highlight end the status of clinical research practices of Tuina and acupuncture treatment of the disease. We also made overview of overview of the pathogenesis and treatment for knee osteoarthritis by modern medicine. At the same time, we gave necessary introduction and conclusion of the research progress of Pressing& Moving Therapy. Our clinical study selected 162 cases of patients with osteoarthritis of the knee. According to the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria, the patients were randomly divided into two groups,80 cases were in the treatment group and 82 cases were in the control group. The treatment group used Pressing& Moving Therapy, and the control group used electro-acupuncture. Respectively, we compared the WOMAC score and improvement rate among pre-treatment, after treatment two weeks and four weeks.[Results]General Results of WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index:being compared with pre-treatment scores, Pressing and Moving group and electro-acupuncture group in the treatment of two weeks and four weeks, both have significant differences (P<0.01). Two general symptoms, pain, stiffness and functional daily activities points of the two groups were both significantly lower than pre- treatment scores (P<0.01). Scores of Pressing and Moving group were significantly lower than electro-acupuncture group (P<0.05, P<0.01); the total effective rate of Pressing and Moving group was 93.9%, better than the electro-acupuncture group (83.7%), the difference was statistically significant (x2=4.226, P=0.04).[Conclusion]Pressing& Moving Therapy and Electro-acupuncture are both effective in improving overall symptoms, relieving pain, reducing stiffness and decreasing the functional difficulty of daily activities. Especially, Pressing& Moving Therapy gets earlier and better effective in improving overall symptoms, reducing stiffness and decreasing the functional difficulty of daily activities. Besides, with the number of treatment accumulates, the cumulative effect are more and more obvious. But in middle of treatment, electro-acupuncture treatment group and Pressing and Moving group have no significant difference in relieving the pain. The results showed that Pressing& Moving Therapy has advantages on the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee and should be further promoted and explore.
