Background:Pharyngeal tonsils hypertrophy is a common disease in children. It is an important factor related to pediatric obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAHS). Pharyngeal tonsils hypertrophy can cause rhinitis-nasosinusitis, secretory otitis media. chronic cough, enuresis, growth retardation and other diseases, the main treatment is endoscopic pharyngeal. tonsillectomy however, specific clinic and age indication for the pharyngeal tonsillectomy in children is not clear yet. And the relationship between pharyngeal tonsils and the immune function of children haven’t been determined. consequently, itis still controversial in scholars that whether pharyngeal tonsillectomy is indispensable when the immune function of children have not yet fully developed. Further more, endoscopic pharyngeal tonsillectomy has the risk of postoperative complications. Chinese medicine treatment is one of the important conservative therapy. The TCM sequential therapy for nasal disease is built by Professor Sun Shuchen, which shows an excellent clinical efficacy in the treatment of pharyngeal tonsils hypertrophy. Objective:To investigate the clinical effect of TCM Sequential Therapy for Nasal Disease to treat pharyngeal tonsils hypertrophy.Methods:1.35 pharyngeal tonsils hypertrophy patients with diagnosed by endoscopic examination was included in the study. Treated them with the TCM sequential therapy for nasal disease, for 16.8±8.3 weeks. Took the endoscopic examination again after treatment and compared the change of the pharyngeal tonsil size.2.. Parents accessed the children’s symptom score of prior-treatment and post-treatment and compared the difference of the two scores. The treatment last 2 weeks and evaluated the satisfaction of the therapy.Results:35 patients were observed with the age from 2 to 12 years old. There is a significant difference between prior-treatment and post-treatment in size of pharyngeal tonsils. (P<0.01). there is a significant difference in symptoms(such as rhinorrhea, snoring) in 2 weeks treatment. (P<0.01).Conclusion:1.The TCM sequential therapy for nasal disease suggests a good clinical efficacy for reducing the size of pharyngeal tonsils in children.2.The symptoms were Improved in 2 weeks’treatment (such as rhinobyon, rhinorrhea, snoring).
