Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a serious of symptom complex of metabolic disorder, which includes risk factors like central obesity, glyco metabolism, dyslipidemia, hypertension. All these risk factors are the cause of cardio cerebral vascular disease. Many research shows that Insulin Resistant is the main cause of the metabolic syndrome. According to the Chinese Medicine, IR is associated closely with the dysfunction of the spleen in transport.Imbalance of spleen controlling digestion will produce pathological products like sputum, damp and heat etc... This study is to investigate and discuss the Chinese method of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" to have the effect on the metabolic syndrome. At the same time, using an EBM and Meta-Analysis method to study "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment makes the theory more objective and dependable scientific analysis, which gives the basis of clinical treatment.Purpose:Using a Meta-Analysis method, investigating the effect of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment on Metabolic Syndrome prescription. Through a Meta-Analysis method comparing efficacy between Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine treatment on Metabolic Syndrome. Method:Design a scientific and systematic literature retrieval strategy of the database of CNKI, WF, VIP, etc... Above all CNKI includes database of academic journals, important conference materials and a graduation thesis. This study is a RCT research literature for the treatment of metabolic syndrome using the "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment, which was published in 2000-2014. Selected literature evaluates the quality of the documents by using Jadad rating scale and Cochrane Review Handbook5.1.The meta-analysis was analyzed by using Review Manager5.3 Program. Data variables using the MD, analyzed by the effect sizes Select a 95% CI. The study compares between the Chinese medicine and the Western medicine, and between combination of Chinese Medicine and Western medicine vs Western medicine. Analysis items are BMI, FBG, TG, TC, HDL-C, DBP, SBP.Result:The 959 documents were retrieved from the Primary search. Through the inclusion criteria selected a total of 539 cases from seven literature. Among them five cases are obtained by comparing the traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, two cases by comparing between the combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine vs Western medicine.Jadad rating scale results seven studies received two Points. This means quality of the documents are relatively low. Results of meta-analysis, Chinese medicine showed excellent effect on blood lipid and weight loss than Western medicine. Combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine showed excellent effect on blood glucose, blood lipid, blood Pressure than Western medicine. Results of meta-analysis:â‘  "Clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment showed a better effect on TG, BMI than Western medicine (TG:MD=-0.37,95%CI(-0.46,-0.29), P<0.0001, BMI:MD=-0.30,95% CI(-0.55,-0.04), P= 0.02), There is heterogeneity in FBG, SBP, DBP.HDL-C for Comparing between "Clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" Prescription and Western medicine study. These concultion has a statistically significance. Therefore, it is not capable for meta-analysis.â‘¡ Combination of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" and Western medicine has shown to have a better effect on FBG than Western medicine, MD=-1.14, 95% CI(-1.48,-0.80), P<0.00001. Therefore, the difference between the two groups are found to be statistically meaningful. In combination of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" prescription and Western medicine has better effect on SBP than Western medicine, MD=-7.35, 95% CI(-9.36,-5.34), P<0.00001. Therefore, Combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine has the better effect than Western medicine, The difference between the two groups are found to be statistically meaningful.Combination of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment and Western medicine has a better effect on TG than Western medicine alone, MD=-0.25, 95% CI(-0.38,-0.12), P=0.0002. Therefore, combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine has the better effect than Western medicine alone. The difference between the two groups are found to be statistically meaningful.Conclusion:1. The results of the above shows that "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment has a better effect on TG, BMI than Western medicine.2. Combination of "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment and Western medicine has a better effect on FBG, SBP, TG than Western medicine. But this study has relatively small number of documents included and the quality of the documents are also low.Heterogeneity was found in Comparing between "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment and Western medicine, so there was not enough literature to keep on the further research of meta-analysis.In conclution, it is effective to treat metabolic syndrome with "clearing heat and invigorating the spleen" treatment, but to draw a firm conclusion requires more large population samples of RCT clinical research.
