Objective To explore the characteristics of cognitive impairment and negative emotion in patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA) or minor stroke. Methods A total of 279 patients with TIA or minor stroke and 150 healthy controls were recruited. According to the course of disease, patients were divided into two groups: 142 patients being at 1-7 days after TIA or minor stroke and 137 patients being more than 7 days. Cognition was accessed by Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Mo CA). Negative emotion was accessed by Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA) and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD).Results:(1)The TIA/minor stroke patients had significantly lower scores(P<0.0001), and patients being at 1-7 days had the lowest cognitive scores(P<0.0001).(2)In comparison with controls, the patients’ performances in visuoexecutive function, language, memory, abstraction were obviously lower. In addition, patients being at 1-7 days after TIA or minor stroke scored lower than patients being the more than 7 days in almost all Mo CA subtests.(3)The HAMA and HAMD scores differed significantly between TIA/minor stroke patients and the healthy controls(P<0.01), and patients being more than 7 days scored lower than patients being at 1-7 days(P<0.01).Conclusions:(1) In patients with TIA/Minor stroke incidence within 7d and after 7d had cognitive impairment, anxiety and depression disorders in different digrees, and cognitive dysfunction and negative emotions had a improvement along with the progression.(2)The damage to Cognitive domains in patients with TIA/Minor stroke is executive function and memory.
