Semen cuscutae are dry mature seeds of the plant, Cuscuta chinensis Lam. Which belongs to convolvulaceae family.They possess the abilities of nourishing liver and kidney, quieting fetus, improving eyesight and relieving diarrhea. However, The phenomenon of their counterfeit and shoddy has been so serious in the last few years that it is hard to ensure the quality of crude drugs. Studies on chemical constituents and quality control of Semen cuscutae, comparison study of semen cuscutae and its adulterants and quality evaluation of commercial semen cuscutae were carried out to make contributions to better control the quality of Semen cuscutae.1、Studies on chemical constituents were performed by various chromatographic methods, such as silica gel, polyamide, Sephadex LH-20, etc.. Seven compounds were isolated and identified by physico-chemical properties and spectral data as:octadecyl (E)-p-coumarate (1), methyl 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-4-hydroxycinnamate (2), kaempferol (3), astragalin (4), hyperoside (5),β-sitosterol (6), daucosterol (7). And compound 1,2 were isolated from the cuscuta genus for the first time.2、On the basis of Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China (2005 Edition), studies on identification,tests, assay and HPLC fingerprints were completed, which improves quality control of Semen cuscutae and provides experimental evidences for its revising quality standard.3、Comparison studies of semen cuscutae and its adulterants were carried out, from three aspects, such as plant morphology, descriptions and microscopic characteristics of crude drugs. And then the quality of these different varieties, by means of TLC, assay and HPLC fingerprints, was evaluated, which provides experimental evidences for reasonable ultization of Semen cuscutae.4、The quality of commercial semen cuscutae was assessed, from three aspects, morphological identification, ash tests and assays. The result revealed that the phenomenon of counterfeit and shoddy had been serious, which should attract much concern of government. And the government should strengthen the supervision.
