Qinling Mountain Range is the transition area and boundary between south and north China in terms of geography, climate and biology. With rich biodiversity resources, it becomes one of the hot-spot areas for biodiversity conservation in China. In this paper, the study area contains the main peak of Qinling Mountains and surrounding areas. Through literature research and expert consultation, seven kinds of important protected mammals were selected as research targets, including giant panda, takin, Chinese forest musk deer, Chinese goral, serow, Sichuan golden monkey, Asiatic golden cats. Based on field investigation, remote sensing image interpretation and other spatial analysis and planning methods including:habitat assessment with Maxent, GAP analysis, system protection planning with Marxan, the habitat of each mammals was modeled, key areas of mammals conservation and nature reserves planning were finally proposed. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) The habitat of giant panda, takin, Chinese forest musk deer, Chinese goral, serow, Sichuan golden monkey and Asiatic golden cats were:3648.9 km2,7333.9km2,11261.9 km2,9164.4 km2,12647.8km2,8574.6km2,7140.1km2. These habitats were mainly distributed in Taibai Mountain and surrounding areas, including Taibai, Zhouzhi, Ningshan, Foping, Yangxian.(2) Three key areas for mammals conservation were proposed with the total area of 10629.7 km2, accounting for 36.7% of study area. Key areaâ… , including the border zone areas of Baoji City, Taibai and Fengxian, as well as the northwest corner of Fengxian county, with the area of 1043.3 km2. Key areaâ…¡was located on the main peak of Qinling Mountains and the surrounding areas, including Taibai, Meixian, Huxian, Foping, Chenggu, Yangxian, Ningshan, with the area of 8561.3 km2. Key areaâ…¢contained the border region of Liuba and Mianxian, and southern part of Fengxian, with the area of 997.1km2.(3) The current nature reserves contained 3821.3km2 or 35.9% of key areas. Among the three key areas, key areasâ… was completely in a conservation gap. Key areaâ…¡was basically protected in the middle, but its eastern and western parts were outside of nature reserves. As for key areaâ…¢, only a small proportion was inside Wuliangshan nature reserve, leaving most of other parts in conservation gap. Based on the results of GAP analysis, five new nature reserves and three nature reserves corridors were suggested for conservation the important mammals in the mountains.(4) Based on connectivity analysis, conceptual planning of nature reserves group was proposed in key areaâ…¡, with the giant panda as the research object. As for the overall layout of nature reserves group, two reserves including Xushuihe and Jinjiliang should be established in the conservation gaps, and three connection areas should to be established at the area of high landscape connectivity. As for the functional division within nature reserves group, four core areas were suggested as to contain the core habitats of the six populations areas of giant panda. And the core areas were circumfused with buffers, which were circumfused with the experiment area.(5) Protection measures of mammals in Qinling Mountain Range are as follows: expanding the scope of nature reserves, enhancing the integration and functional area adjustment of nature reserves group; reducing impacts of traffic, tourism and other human activities on wildlife; promoting economic and social development in key area; enhancing the popularizing of wildlife protection and law enforcement; strengthening the monitoring and management of species'habitats.
