Cultivating high potassium-efficiency tobacco genotypes based on the genetic research is the hottest and most difficult problem currently. Using high potassium-efficiency tobacco genotypes can increase potassium efficiency of the soil and fertilizers and potassium content of tobacco leaf.The result of analysis major nutrient efficiency among different tobacco genotypes indicated that the characteristics of plant absorb and accumulate potassium determined the leaves potassium concentration. Moreover, the potassium content among different genotypes varied greatly.Potassium concentration have the similar trend in different regions, different K and N application rate, different stalk position and different parts of the leaves among different tobacco genotypes. Therefore, the potassium concentration of the middle ripe leaves under the same K and N application rate in the same place could represent the potassium efficiency of the plant. Zhongyan 90 or G28 are the standard minimum potassium efficiency genotypes for potassium efficiency study.The potassium efficiency of 487 tobacco genotypes growing in the field was analysed. Only 11 genotypes had a high potassium efficiency. Potassium accumulation rate varied among different tobacco types, Burley potassium accumulation rate is the highest, the next is cigar and flue-cured tobacco, and Oriental tobacco potassium accumulation rate is the lowwest. Potassium accumulates efficiency of different Flue-cured tobacco genotypes vary greatest.CV09-1-2, CV09-9-6, Wrinkle-Leaf Honghuadajinyuan and Zhongyan 90 were selected as the high potassium efficiency tobacco genotypes from 487 genotypes through three years field experiment.After hybrid combinations and Offspring selection, V2×CV09-9-6, Wrinkle-Leaf Honghuadajinyuan×G28, Wrinkle-Leaf Honghuadajinyuan×Zhongyan 90 were selected through hybrid, as they had a better growing, higher virus resistance and can be used directly.
