This study was carried out to investigate the influence of spacing on summer maize growth traits, lodging resistance and yield at different densities, with two summer species(zhengdan-958 and fengyu-4)as experimental materials.The discovery was expected to be useful to investigate the feasibility of raising planting density through setting reasonable row spacing and plant spacing, and also could provide the important theoretical evidence for further yield-enhancing of summer maize. The main results were as follows.1. The density is negatively correlated with dry weight correlation. With the density inereased, the dry matter accumulation of single Plant increased.The individual plant dry weight at 67500 plants/hm2 increased 35.13%, compared with 97500 plants/hm2.Row spacing is a significant negative correlation with dry matter accumulation. At different plant-configuration there is more dry weight at 50cm row planting than 90cm by 5.45%~23.89%. With the increasing of row spacing while decreasing of plant spacing, single plant dry weight declined. Therefore, in the high density, inclining row spacing and raising plant spacing is an effective approach to enhance dry weight of summer maize.2. With the increasing of density, the leaf area index and the leaf area duration increase gradually. The peak value of LAI at 90cm row spacing has a shorter extended period, and fell rapidly at 30-days after sinking stage. LAD at 50cm row spacing is significantly higher than 90cm by 2%~24%.It shows that raising row spacing and inclining plant spacing make prematurely senile more serious, light penetration less and light utilization efficiency lower.3. The effect of density on character of stem showed that plant height would be increased and the diameter of stem would be thinned. The density has a significant influence on hardness of base stem internode, breaking resistance, bending resistance. With the increasing of density, it will be obviously decreased on hardness of base stem internode, breaking resistance, bending resistance. The row spacing disposition has a significant influence to the hardness of base stem internode, breaking resistance and bending resistance. With the increasing of row spacing and the shortening of distance , the plant height would be increased and the diameter of stem would be thinned. it will be obviously decreased that the hardness of base internodes, bending resistance and breaking resistance . Therefore, shorter planting distance at the high density has advantage to improving lodging resistance.4. The density has a significant impact on summer maize yielding and even have a very significant influence. With the increasing of density, the yield increases. However, if the density increasing to a certain degree, the yield decreases. The spacing configuration has a significant impact on summer maize yielding and even have a very significant influence. The yield increases dramatically at 50cm compared with other treatments by 3.78%~9.86%. In the high-yielding planting areas of Hebei province, the row spacing should be adjusted to 50cm according to this study.
