The ecological environment in the loess plateau was suffering serious damage, so the recovery and reconstruction of vegetation were necessary to improve the ecological environment. The understory communities and soil were investigated in pure pinus tabulaeformis plantation, pure robinia pseudoacacia plantation, and pinus and robinia mixed plantation in the Loess Plateau of west Shan Xi.After datum analysis, we got that:pinus and robinia mixed plantation favored more plant species coexistence than pure pinus tabulaeformis plantation and pure robinia pseudoacacia plantation in the study area; pinus and robinia mixed plantation enhanced the mass fraction of soil resource content and plant community biomass on the forest floor which would help increase plant species diversity, improved soil ability to retain water and nutrients, reduced soil erosion, and greatly improved the fertility of the soil surface and forest productivity. Then, the suggestion was reached that the ecological environment of the Loess Plateau could be better restored by spreading the pinus and robinia mixed plantation widely.
