This research was conducted between August 1st and September 1st, 2010 on Stipa breviflora desert steppe in Inner Mongolia, using belt transect method and grid method to analyze the heterogeneity of plant characteristics (overall plant coverage and plant species) and soil characteristics (soil total organic carbon and total nitrogen content) on different spacial scales. Correlations between plant characteristics and soil characteristics distribution patterns were discussed, aiming to provide theoretical reference for ecological resilience and rangeland construction in desert steppe.1 Semivariance analysis method was conducted to study the vegetation characteristics (overall coverage and plan species) and the characteristics of constructive species on stipa breviflora desert steppe. The heterogeneity analysis showed that the heterogeneities on different spatial scales and small samples were diverse. More obvious heterogeneity showed as spatial scale extended and also the structure was more complicated.2 Through variable function analysis and fractal dimension calculation, the heterogeneity of soil characteristics (content of soil organic carbon and total nitrogen) on experiment field was studied, showed relatively great heterogeneity on different sampling methods and soil characteristics on different spatial scales and the heterogeneity was primarily influenced by structural factors.3 The correlation analysis showed that different sampling methods and vegetation characteristics and soil characteristics on different spatial scales possessed different spatial patterns. However, great correlations were not implicated.
