The carp intestinal epithelial cells in primary culture were selected to evaluate effects of soybean agglutinin on its proliferation, differentiation and functions. Firstly, the lactate dehydrogenase activity, glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activity and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase activity in the culture medium were investigated after soybean agglutinin was added 72h, at the same time, the morphologic characterization of carp intestinal epithelial cells was observed with the microscope. The results showed that the lactate dehydrogenase activity and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activity were very significantly enhanced by soybean agglutinin concentration (P<0.01),but the effects on glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase activity in the culture medium wasn't show significant change and the shaps of cells showed unnormal. secondly , the cell MTT absorption at 540 run wavelength (MTT OD540) , alkaline phosphatase activity, Na~+-K~+-ATPase activity, protein content in the cells were investigated .The results showed that MTT OD540, alkaline phosphatase activity, Na~+-K~+-ATPase activity, protein content were significantly affected by soybean agglutinin concentration (P<0.01). The MTT OD540 and protein content were increased with the soybean agglutinin level increasing ,but the alkaline phosphatase activity, Na -K~+-ATPase activity were decreased with the soybean agglutinin level increasing. Thirdly, the concentration of ammonia in the culture medium and the glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activity,glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase activity and protein content in the cells were investigated and they were all significantly affected by soybean agglutinin concentration (P<0.01) and increased with the soybean agglutinin level increasing. The results of correlation analysis showed that there were significant correlation between soybean agglutinin level , glutamic-pyruvic transaminase activity both in the culture medium and cells , MTT OD540 and lactate dehydrogenase activity (rl=+0.9560, P<0.01; r2=+0.9690, P < 0.01; r3=+0.9260, P<0.01; r4=+0.9220, P...
