The evaluation about the vegetation restoration effect on soil erosion and soil quality becomes the important topic which currently needs to research urgently. This paper took the soil quality dynamic change during vegetation restoration in the Ziwuling area as a breakthrough point, used methods of investigation, sampling in the field and inside analysis, researched on the vegetation succession, the species diversity and soil physics, chemistry, microorganism characters and carried on the quality synthetic evaluation to the soil quality. The main research conclusion is as follows:1. During vegetation restoration, soil erosion was controlled availably, the development of shallow gully was stopped, the sediment was deposited in the channels of shallow gully and gully, the deposition rate was 0.5~0.7cm·a-1. Under the natural vegetation cover, the positive factors which affect on soil erosion were not slope degree and length and rainfall but vegetation factor.2. During vegetation restatration, community group succession rule On the hillslop in Ziwuling area was: Setaris viridis + Artemisia scoparia (1y) - Artemisia scoparia + Gramaneae (2-5y) - Artemisia gmelinii (5-10 y) - Stipa bungeana (10-20 y) - Leymus scalinus + Hippophae rhamnoides (20-30 y) - Bothriochloa ischaemun + Sophora viciifolia (30-50 y year) - Quercus liaotungensis + Populus davidiana community. Overground biomass and species abundance index increased along with restoration year.3. In the Ziwuling area, soil physics, chemistry and biology property improved during vegetation restoration. Along with the vegetation syngenesis, soil porosity, soil water-stable aggregate content increased, soil stability raised; soil moisture condition improved, soil anti-erosivity ability strengthened. Soil organic matter, total nitrogen, available phosphorus content, soil enzyme activity and microorganism biomass increased during the vegetation restoration. Catalase activeness change scope was lower than other three kinds of enzyme. Microbial biomass was as that Bacteria > Actinomycetes > Fungi.
