Konjac is one of shade tolerance perennial herb stem tubers, which belongs to Monocotyledoneae, Araceae. Its main ingredient is konjac glucomannan (KGM), which is a polysaccharide consisting of repeating units of beta-D-glucose and beta-D-mannose joined together in a chain by 1,4 linkages. Historically, Glucomannan has been used in traditional Asian foods such as noodles, tofu, and other food products. It has lots of unique characteristics such as rheological, thickening, gel formation and phragmoid character, so it is practical valuable in foodstuff, medicine and chemical engineering area. Studies at home and aboard demonstrate that KGM is a kind of excellent low calorie, low fat and high cellulose hydrosoluble food fiber, which is important modulating effect on nutritious imbalance. It is helpful to the health of people worldwide for its blood sugar lowering, blood lipid lowering, blood pressure lowering, fatty liver reversing, purging, body weight reducing, anti-cancer effects, immunological function enhancing and anti-consenescence effects. Now KGM has been officially accepted as food addictive by American and European contries.Although konjac industry has achieved great progress, the problem of lacking quality variety, efficient management and high grade konjac fine powder still exist.China's known Rare earth elements (REEs) reserves ranks the first in the world. Rare earth elements have special biology effects on organisms, including improving the yield of crops, promoting seeds sprout and young plants growth. So rare earth fertilizer has been widely applied in crops across china. However, it has never been applied to konjac before. This research innovatively applied rare earth fertilizer to konjac for the first time. The technique of employment as well as its effects on the quality of konjac was studied. This paper includes four parts. In Part one, the technique of employment of which rare earth fertilizer applied to konjac was described. The results showed when spraying RE fertilizer at concentration of 0.2% and at intervals of 10d for 2 times, the fresh konjac yield could increase by 96~262kg/667m~2 while disease index dedrease 3.08%. It indicated employing REES fertilizer could enhance konjac's yield as well as its ability against disease. The residue of REEs was determined by ICP-MS and the result showed the residue slightly increased but still within the safety range. In Part two, the content of KGM was determined according to national standards. The result showed that the content of KGM increased by 4.28 as average. Considering the yield of fresh konjac could raise according to part one, the total KGM that could be extracted should increase. In part three, two methods, i.e. FAAS and GFAAS were established for the determination of heavy metals in konjac. Working parameters of ion chromatography (IC)...
