Iris L. is the largest and most evolutional genus in Iridaceae. Both life force and resistance in wild Iris are strong at the same time they keep green for long time. So Wild Iris have favourable foreground to large-scale extending. With the development of ecological garden, the ground covers of Iris L.are becoming popular in landscape constructing, and it is an important way to meet the contradiction between the limit of water and the landscape constructing in Urmqi. 7 Iris species have been used as materials to study the characteristics of drought resistance for each Iris species. The correlationship between physiological parameter changes and the drought resistance of Iris species was discussed.It was showed that each Iris species has their own drought resistance characteristics .the water stress was affected by multiple factors such as the regulating ability of defending system of the plant. The relative water content, and the chlorophyll content of the leaf were decreased and the MDA content, electric conductivity increased as the water stress stronger. But the SOD activity,POD activity,CAT activity and the content of soluble proline and sugar were increased at the beginning then decreased as the water stress stronger.The characters and regulating change of 9 physiological parameter such as relative water content, the chlorophyll content of the leaves,the stability of cell membrance and soluble materials regulation were close related with the drought resistance of Iris species. Iris have different abilities of drought resistance . According to the result of the average subordinative function method of some important indexes, it is revealed that the drought resistance of Iris species from strongest to the weakest were as follow: Iris bloudowii Ledeb.> Iris scariosa Willd >Iris. germanica> Iris. lactea var. chinerrsis.> Iris.
