This research is a part of the subject on International Registration Authority of Osmanthus fragrans Cultivars, O. fragrans is one of Chinese ten-traditional flowers, which is favourite for Chinese people. During its long cultivation history, O. fragrans is not just distributed in Southwest China as the description in Flora of China vol. 61. The author summarized the geographical distribution and wild distribution of O. fragrans which are based on investigation and related information. At the same time, the author investigated winter freezing injury of O. fragrans in Nanjing , Linyi and Jinan. While we discussed freezing resistance of O. fragrans which were exposed to simulated low temperature (below zero degrees) stress by analyzing some eco-physiological indexes. The results are as follows:1. The geography distribution and wild distribution of O. fragrans The fitting distribution of O. fragrans is in the great mass of the north and middle of semi-tropic which is in the south of Qinling and Huaihe and the north of Nanling. Now because of the influence of the artificial cultivation, The most north line of its cultivated distribution area is Yongji , Xiaxian of Shanxi, Xinxiang of Henan(as northern latitude 35 degree), Laoshan of Qingdao(as northern latitude 36 degree); the south line was the margin of tropic; the west line was Sichuan areas, because of the rising of topography; the east line was chinese coastal areas. So the distribution has included 18 provinces. While the wild distribution of O. fragrans was in the areas south of Yangtze River in ancient China, not just limited in Southwest China.2. Investigating winter freezing injury of O. fragrans The growth of O. fragrans in Nanjing was very well and they didn't need any protective measure. On the whole plant performance in winter, The apex of old leaves changed into brown color, the worst is that the wattles of autumn were dead. The same cultivars in different areas and the different cultivars in same area were different winter freezing injury. O. fragrans was usually potted and grafted by Chionanthus retusus in Shandong areas and they were adding in many protective measures such as greenhouse, nitrogen fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer, so O. fragrans wasn't dead. Some old trees were safe to survival because of long cultivation , suitable environment and factitious training in winter3. Researching freezing resistance of O. fragrans We chose O. fragrans in...
