Culture experiments were carried out with Pseudodiaptomus marinus (Copepoda: Calanoida), a dominant species at the inshore waters in China. The culture apparatus designed by our lab is a closed recirculating system. Following the cultivation of Pseudodiaptomus marinus, we fed Japanese flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) larvae with different kinds of living foods (including Pseudodiaptomus marinus, rotifers, Artemia nauplii and the mixture of P. marinus and Artemia nauplii), then studied the effects of these living foods on the survival and growth of Japanese flounder larvae were studied. Fatty acid composition in these living foods and Japanese flounder larvae were measured quantitatively by means of gas chromatographic (GC) technique. And the influences of different livings foods on Japanese flounder larvae's fatty acid composition were analysed. The results of the cultivation of P.marinus (Copepoda: Calanoida) showed that the optimal condition to culture P. marinus is: salinity 20, temperature 25℃, mixture of algae Isochrysis galbana Parke 8701 and Phaeodactylum triorrutum 1:1(total concentration about 10~20×104 cells/ml). The stock culture of P. marinus has been maintained for about 57 generations. The harvest of each small-scale culture of P. marinus is stability, the amount of it increased 16.2~18.5 times and the production is 110~133 copepods l-1 day-1 after 14 days culture. Moreover, a kind of 75L-intensive copepod mass culture system is designed independently and applied to culture P. marinus in this study. And the results also indicated that the system is suitable for the mass culture of copepod. The harvest production is stability and perfection, the amount of P. marinus increased 40.4~43.1 times and the production is 87~290 copepods l-1 day-1 after 14 days culture .Fatty acid composition in three kinds of planktonic food animals (P.marinus;...
