Green-revertible albino mutant was a new leaf colour mutant in rice. The mutation was usually controlled by a recessive nuclear gene and therefore could be used as a phenotypic marker for monitoring seed purity in hybrid rice production, especially in two-line hybrid rice in which seed purity usually affected by temperature.Qiufeng M, a new green-revertible albino mutant, was used in this study. The main agronomic traits, pigment content, relationship of the green-revertible albino mutation with the temperature, the mode of inheritance were systemically investigated. The gene controlled the mutation in chromosome was also mapped with molecular markers. All the studies were supposed to provide some theory bases for fine mapping, map-based cloning of the mutated gene and applied in production of the mutation. The brief results of this paper were summed as follows:1 The leaf colour character of the green-revertible albino in Qiufeng MThe leaf colour character of Qiufeng M was different from that of other green-revertible albino mutant reported. The trait of Qiufeng M was described as below: the coleoptile was albino when shooting. The first three leaves were also albino in edge with some green in midst or base. These leaves didn't convert green until senescence. Since the fourth leaf, the colour of leaves including thoes of tillers became all pale green compared with normal. The colour of glume was also virescent at heading stages.2 The effects of mutated gene on the agronomic charactersThe comparison of the main agronomic characters between Qiufeng and Qiufeng M showed that there were no difference except neck length and 1000 grain weight. The neck length of Qiufeng M was shorter than Qiufeng. We presumed that it may be due to the multi-effect of mutated gene. The lighter grain weight maybe result in insufficient of grain filling because of the pigment deficiency in the mutant.3 The comparison of pigment content between Qiufeng and Qiufeng M...
