The morphological indexes(including plant height,Stem diameter,Root/Top), Physiological indexes(including root activity,free water/binding water, photosynthetic rate),yield and quality of muskmelon(Cucumis melo L.)in solar greenhouse at the stage of seeding and fruit-bearing were measured,their mutual relationship were analysed and summarized under the different soil water irrigation maximum.At the same time,the water requirement of muskmelon were studied.The results showed:(1)When the soil water irrigation mininum was 60%(the percent of the field water capacity)for muskmelon's seedling in solar greenhouse,the optimal soil water irrigation maximum is 90%.Because in this condition,the seeding index,Root/Top,root activity,free water/binding water and net photosynthetic rate were higher.(2)From transplant to harvest,the optimal soil water irrigation maximum is 95% on the basis of irrigation start-point of 75%.Under 95%soil water content,the yield, water use efficiency(WUE),Root/Top,root activity,free water/binding water and net photosynthetic rate and the quality of fruit are the highest.(3)Muskmelon variety Tainong no.2 which was cultivated in Lanzhou region in spring reguired water 68.395m~3 per 667 m~2 altogether.26.341 m~3 were required at the stage of seeding,42.054 m~3 were required from transplant to harvest The water requirement of muskmelon in solar greenhouse on seedling stage and after planting stage are 38.5%and 61.5%to all growth and development stage respectively.
