| Populus euphratic aoliv. is an only arbor species that can build groups in desert of natural distribution. It maintains the ecological balance of distribution area to protect oasis agricultural production, livelihood of the residents for its characters including salt-tolerant, maintaining water, anti-drought, and anti-sand, which leads to higher ecological, economic and social value. For near half a century, the area of natural Populus euphratic aoliv. community in Ejina natural oasis has reduced sharply as the results of sharp decrease in the amount of regional water, the deterioration of ecological environment. So it is of utmost importance to protect Populus euphratic aoliv., which can promote the restoration of regional desert vegetation specially. This paper aims to reveal developments and stability of desert vegetation from the perspectives of flora, species diversity, and individual adaptive architecture by the research on biodiversity of Populus euphratic aoliv. community in Ejina oasis, which can provide scientific basis for effective protection of Populus euphratic aoliv. community and restoration of desert vegetation. The results indicated that Populus euphratic aoliv. community is a typical bank forest and has simple flora composition and low diversity in family and genus. In addition, shrub and herb layers of plant species shares more proprotion in quantity and species composition has obvious characteristics of arid desert vegetation. Populus euphratic aoliv. community has low diversity, and has been disturbed seriously by environmental factors and human activities. Populus euphratic aoliv. has the leaves, branches and fruits adapted to special drought environment, which strengthens the utilization of light and effective water, and enhance the adaptability of resistance to high temperatures and drought. |
