The yield and quality of tea are based on the soil environment of tea plantation. Soil acidification of tea plantation will facilitate the mobility of heavy metal and make more heavy metal transfer into tea, hence endanger the security drinking tea.In this study, the status of soil acidification was evaluated and the trend was predicted via in situ investigation of selected typical tea plantations in Jiangsu province, in order to investigate the key factors (acid rain) leading to soil acidification. And the effects of soil characters to tea gardens' soil acidification was analyzed, especially the effects of parent materials on soil acidic buffering capability. This study would provide theoretical and practical significance in directing the controlling countermeasures of tea gardens' soil acidification and tea plantation management. Furthermore, it's expected to give more scientific suggestion of the location planning of tea plantation in Jiangsu province. This study included three sections. (1) We evaluated and predicted the soil acidification status and trend for typical tea plantations in Jiangsu province. The major tea plantations, such as Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Changzhou, were investigated in order to study the status of soil acidification in tea plantations, find the reasons leading to the soil acidification, and provide a first-hand information for reduce the soil acidification. (2) The acidified factors inducing the soil acidification in tea plantations were investigated in order to clarify the contribution of acid rain on the soil acidification of tea plantations and provide an academic support for controlling the soil acidification. The single and mutual effects of four factors, which were acid rain, the nutrient cycling and the growth of tea tree (including litter fall), root secretions and chemical fertilizers, were studied through simulated soil column experiments. (3) The characters of soil effecting to soil acidification especially the effect of parent materials on soil acidic buffering capability were studied for clarifying the mechanisms of soil acidification caused by parent materials.
