The ecological adaptability of 21 introduced cold-season turfgrass cultivars (including Poa pratensis.L:Conni,Merit,NassauSOD,Park,Kerley,Compact,America,Blue Chip,Platini,Wemble,Huntsville and K.B.G.Lolium perenne L.:Taya,Accent,Ph.D.,Juventus and Derby.Festuca arundinacea:Schreb.:Barlexas,Jaguar3,Houndog,and Shortstop2)to cold, drought,saline-alkali,hot and disease, and performance of turf establishment, including establishment rate, chlorophyll content, green period and tiller number, were studied in Zhangye which is located in the in middle of Hexi Corridor.Based on the turf quality evaluation by use of the correlation method of the Grey Systematic Theory and statistic analysis,it is indicated that Poa pratensis may be used as the chief species of turf establishment. In which,Kerley, Huntsville,Conni,Wemble,K.B.G and NassauSOD are best cultivars.Festuca arundinacea, despite its lower survival rate in harsh winter,is characteristic of its peculiar ability of divarication and competition. Therefore,it is an ideal species of turf grass. The suitable cultivars are Barlexas and Jaguar3.It also showed in this study that Lolium perenne is not suitable for permanent turf establishment in the research area because of its low over-winter rate in spite of its rapid growth in summer.
