The physicochemical parameters and zooplankton surveys were carried out in the mariculture area and the neighbor waters in Aotou Cove of Daya Bay from July to December in 2005. The main results are as follows.58 species of zooplankton were identified. The dominant species were Tintinnopsis cornige,Tintinnopsis radix,Tintinnopsis drecta,Tintinnopsis tocantininsis,Favella campanula,Codonellopsis rutunda,Leprotintinnus nordquisti, Helicostomella longa,Eutintinnus stramentus; Paracalanus crassirostris,Oithona brebicornis, Microsetella norvegia,Euterpe acutifrons,Corycaeus japonicus,Acartia pacifica; Syncheata sp. ,Brchionus plicatilis,Trichocerca sp. and copepod nauplius. The zooplankton densities change with seasons. The average density of zooplankton is 736.9 ind./L ranging from 192.9 to 2242.5 ind./L. The highest density of zooplankton is 2242.5 ind./L in August and the lowest one is 192.9ind./L in December. The diversity indices differed obviously between inside and outside of the mariculture area. The zooplankton densities are higher in natural seawaters than in the mariculture area. The size-frequency distributions indicate that the frequency of zooplankton (0.1mm-0.2mm) is the higher in the mariculture area than in the neighbouring waters. Small-sized zooplanktons are dominant in the mariculture area of Daya Bay.
