Studies On Cathaya Argyrophylla Pest Ecological Management

Cathaya argyrophylla is a specific pinaceae monotypic species of China that is in severe danger, and has been listed as national first-class protected plant. Also It's one of the gynosperms almost extinct, listed on world plants red book. Cathaya argyrophylla is relic plant from the third glacial period, which has great research value. Since the artificial Cathaya argyrophylla forest in Hongtan Spot in Guangxi Huaping natural reserve, has suffered severe pest disasters in recent years, causing cathaya argyrophylla's growth decline and death, we decided to investigat the pest species, research them to find out their biological characteristics and ecological characteristics, and take ecological management according to their growth discipline to build an promoting environment for the growth of the cathaya argyrophylla, but against the pests'breeding and growth.Via two years research from September 2004 to December 2005, 3 diseases and 18 pests have been found; There are basically 6 factors that do harm to the cathaya argyrophylla forest, which are Lophodermiun sp.,Capnokium sp.,Dendrolimus kikuchii Matsmura,Psyllidea,the low plants and rat diaster; Via wild field observation and indoor breeding and feeding of the pests, we have found their biological characteristics; We have also worked out the relationship among climate and geographical conditions, the pest biotic community and environment helpful for the pest disaster and explain the effect on the pest from climate changes, the relationship among cathaya argyrophylla's growth situation, pest disaster level and location, and the pest natural enemies'control effect on the pests; we have worked out 2 methods, primarily afforesting, secondarily prevention and curing with pesticide, our experimentation prove that measurements like weeding, training, cutting some limbs of the companion living tree etc can promote the trees'growth, low down the risk of pest disaster; Pesticide developed in the laboratory that is safe to the natural enemies can be used under emergency situations.This project was the very first one systematic research on cathaya argyrophylla around the world,...
