Insect diversity and its information have been studied in converting farmland for forestry in The Jinshajiang Gorge from February of 2005 to March of 2006. 195 samples, including investigated and control samples, belong to 13 plots of 5 areas Based on four diversity indexes with Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H'), Simpson dominance index (C), Pielou evenness index (E) and Margalef richness index (R), insect species diversity information and its changes in ecological restoration areas of converting farmland for forestry after 2000 were compared and analyzed. It is approach to establish rapid assessment index and system of ecological restoration by using insect diversity.Insect diversity was mainly studied from converting the farmland for forestry and as control sample plots with the cropland and Yunnan pine natural forest. Reforested wood is including economical trees Mangifera indica, Mains micromalus, Prunus mume, Juglans regia and ecological forest planted Cupressus duclouxiana.2240 insect specimens belong to 13 orders, 61 families, 377 species were collected. The insect community of Hymenoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Homoptera, Orthoptera make up 85.53 percent of all families, 89.44 percent of all species, 96.11 percent of all quality. Among them, 1432 specimens belong to 13 orders and 271 species in reforesting formerly cultivated land; 492 specimens belong to 12 orders and 155 species in Yunnan pine natural forest; 316 specimens belong to 9 orders and 68 species in cropland.the highest of the diversity index (H') richness index (R) and evenness index (E) occurred in reforesting formerly cultivated land, in the next place in Yunnan pine natural forest, and the lowest in cropland; on the contrary, for C index cropland is the first one, the second is Yunnan pine natural forest; and then reforesting formerly cultivated land. And the result shows that the R and H index of different month have the order (from high to low): July> May>September>November>March; for the E and C index the order was respectively as follows: July> September > November > May >March, November> May >March> September >July.Using Single Element Variance Analysis methods to analyzed the H,E,C,R index, we found that the difference of R,E,H index both reforesting formerly cultivated land and cropland were significant but E index was not marked when regarding three sample plots and different type of sample plot as the statistical units. Above analyses showed.that insect diversity of reforest formerly cultivated land had obviously changes after Returning Land from Farming for Forestry. Moreover the changes of R,E,H index have get to significance level. The discrepancy of R and H index between Mar and July, July and November was significant when regarding month as the statistical units. On the contrary, the others had no conspicious different. And the different of E and C index was not marked between months. And from R,H,E index...
