In this paper, the characteristics of soil organic carbon (SOC) pool, organic carbon return of the litterfall and fine root, and the litterfall horizon organic carbon pool have been investigated to discover the relationship between the soil organic carbon pool and the organic carbon return in the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest in Tiantong. The main findings as followed:(1) The soil organic content and the soil organic carbon pool are significant increased with the succession processes from D.pe+L.cu comm. to C.fa comm., but the P.ma+ S.su comm. In the intermediate stages, the soil bulk density is higher than that of the earlier and later stages.(2) There are significant increased for the litterfall biomass and the organic carbon returns in the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest. The leaves and twigs of the litterfall are the principal parts of the organic carbon return to the forest ecosystem.(3) There are significant decreased for the litterfall horinzon biomass and the organic carbon storage with the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest. In the earlier stages, the biomass and the organic carbon storage of the litterfall horinzon was higher than that of the intermediate stages, and the later stages were lowest among that. The organic carbon content and of the litterfall horizon in varoius layers can be ordered as follows: semidecomposed layer (F layer) >undecomposed layer (L layer)> decomposed layer (Y layer), and the organic carbon content in P.ma comm. was highest among the different stages in the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest.(4) There is variance in the biomass and organic carbon return of the fine root in the different stages with the succession processes. In the earlier stages, the organic carbon content and organic carbon ruturn of the fine root in the D.pe+L.cu comm. are higher than that of L.ch+L.gl comm., but in the intermediate stages, it decreases sharply with the succession processes from L.ch+L.gl comm. to P.ma comm., and then in the later stages increasing. There is significant difference in the organic carbonreturn of the fine root among the series of the succession in the evergreen broad-leaved forest.(5) By comparisons, the organic carbon return of the litterfall is positively correlated with the soil organic carbon storage, soil bulk density and soil organic carbon content during the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest, and so is the organic carbon return of litterfall. Furthermore, the biomass of the litterfall is positively correlated with the soil organic carbon storage during the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest.(6) The organic carbon storage of the litterfall horizon is significant negative correlated with the soil organic carbon storage during the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest. Further analysis showed that the organic carbon storage of the litterfall horizon in the L layer is significant positively correlated with soil organic carbon storage, however, that of the F layer and Y layer are significant negative correlated with the soil organic carbon storage. The organic carbon storage in Y layer is significant negative correlated with the soil bulk density during the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest.(7) The result showed that it is significant positively correlation between the organic carbon return of fine root and soil organic carbon storage during the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest, but the organic carbon content of the fine root doesn't.(8) In general, the forest litterfall and fine foot are the principal parts of that organic carbon return to the soil. These results showed that the quantity and quality of the forest litterfall and fine foot are the main factors that made soil organic carbon storage variety in the succession of the evergreen broad-leaved forest in Tiantong. In the earlier stages, it is the main form that the organic carbon return to soil through the fine root, and in the intermediate and later stages, the organic carbon return to soil through the litterfall is the main form, however, we also can't ignore the organic carbon return to soil through the fine root in the intermediate and later stages.
