From 2005 to 2006, field experiment was conducted in xinghua city, lixiahe area Jiangsu province. Two hybrid medium Japanica rice cultivars (9 you 418 and xuyou 201) were adopted as materials. And its yield potential and high yield growth characteristics were studied compared with the control of hand planting with dry-raised seedlings and seedling broadcasting with plastic trays–raised seedling. Most researches were focused on the effects of seeding density (number of seedling per hole) and planting density on rice yield and quality and its yield formation. And the results were as follows.1,In the area of Lixiahe, compared with the hand planting with dry-raised seedlings, hybrid medium Japanica rice with raising seedling in plastic trays could explore individual potential of production and show some advantage of yield. The average yield of two rice cultivars was 684.6kg which was 15.2kg higher than the yield of hand planting with dry-raised seedling rice. Meanwhile, the effect of yield increase was varied in two rice cultivars and the yield increase was significant in xuyou 201 while it was not obvious in 9 you 418.In the formation of yield, rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays showed advantage of tiller development, larger number of tiller at the low position and the total tillers and the higher percentage of productive tillers. The spikelet number per panicle, grain percentage and the 1000-grain weight was stable for rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays. Mean while, the large amount of spikelet per m2, more dry matter accumulation after heading and higher harvest index were also the trait of rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays. Therefore, the rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays integrated the seed saving, high efficiency and high yield and it was considered as a new high yield rice planting type in lixiahe area.2,Compared with seedling broadcasting rice, hybrid medium Japanica rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays has obvious yield advantage and its average yield was 695.9kg which was 34.6kg higher than the yield of seedling broadcasting rice. It revealed that in order to obtain high yield, rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays could relatively decreased the density of seeds (number of seedling per hole) while seedling broadcasting rice should increase the density of seeds relatively. As the component of yield, the number of panicles per 666.67m2 and the grain percentage of rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays increased significantly. Meanwhile the decrease of spikelet number per panicle and 1000-grain weight and the increase of the amount of spikelet per 666.67m2 were also the trait of rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays. In rice quality, the quality indexes of rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays were similar to that of seedling broadcasting rice. Some of rice qulity index such as head milled rice was improved. Furthermore, rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays can also increase the RVA properties. In the formation of yield, rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays showed advantage of tiller development. Its numbers of the total tillers, maximum tillers and panicles per 666.67m2 were larger. Meanwhile, the high leaf area index, larger dry matter and nitrogen accumulation at different growth stages were also the also the trait of rice planting with raised seedling in plastic trays.3,the density of seeding and planting affected rice yield significantly. Seeds sowing with one grain per hole combined with 1.5×103 hills planting per 666.67m2 was the best combination in rice production which planting with raised seedling in plastic trays. The type of rice planting has more panicles and spikelets and the grain percentage as well as the 1000-grain weight were also stable. Meanwhile, the dynamic of tillers, LAI and dry matter and nitrogen accumulation were also show advantages. The indexes of rice quality were influenced by rice cultivar mainly while the planting density influenced the protein content and gel consistency significantly. The increase of planting density could decrease the protein content and length of gel consistency. In addition, the planting density can also regulated the hot paste viscosity and the final viscosity of RVA properties. The increase of plating densities could increase the hot paste viscosity and the final viscosity. Systematic analysis revealed that seeds sowing with one grain per hole combined with 1.5×103 hills planting per 666.67m2 was the comparatively harmonious combination in high yield and good quality rice production which planting with raised seedling in plastic trays.
