As an important component of natural ecosystem, arbuscularmycorrhizal fungi(AMF) has an important physiological and ecologicalfunctions. We studied the species, species richness, spore density, diversityindex and mycorrhizal colonization of AMF of the Artemisia halodendroncommunity in this paper. Because of the dominance of Artemisiahalodendron degenerated in the succession from shifting sandy land tofixed sandy land in Horqin sandy land. We tried to find the relationshipbetween the degenerating of Artemisia halodendron population and AMFcommunity during the succession gradient.A total of 57 plants were collected and examined, in which 51 species(about 89.5%) were infected with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF).Most species of Gramineae, Compositae, Leguminosae, Liliaceae, andSalicaceae were infected with AMF. Ephedra sinica Stapf. also has beeninfected that is belong to GYMNOSPERMAE. A few species which belongto Caryophyllaceae and Chenopodiaceae also formed the symbiosis withAMF. Muti-symbiosis is very common between the AMF and DSE (Darkseptate endophytes) fungus in the same host plant. But the colonization rateof the mycorrhizal plants is lower.27 species of 5 genera were identified including 4 species belong toAcaulospora, 3 belong to Diversispora, 3 belong to Entrophospora, 14belong to Glomus, 3 belong to Scutellospora and 6 uncertain species. Fivenew recorded species in Inner Mongolia were obtained from the surveyareas. The dominant species of the Artemisia halodendron community of Horqin sandy lands are Scutellospora persica, Scut. Pellucida, Scut.Calospora, Glomus tortuosum and Diversispora etunicatum. Some specialspecies, Glomus hyderabadensis,Entrophospora infrequens,Acaulosporarehmii, occured in this sandy lands.Seasonal changes of the diversity and the distribution of AMF werefound in the Artemisia halodendron community. The species, spore density, species richness and diversity index of AMF are higher in August in thedifferent sandy land, higher in the the fixed sandy land in the same month, and also higher in the 5~15cm soil layer. There is significant correlationbetween both the spore density and the arbuscular colonization with soilphosphorus. The AMF community structure of Artemisia halodendron have beenchanged along the succession from shifting Sandy land to fixed sandy landin Horqin sandy land. The species composition, dominant species andspecies richness of AMF are different in the different sandy land type.
