Epidemiological Investigation To Edema Disease Of Piglet In North Aera Of Anhui Province And Prevention

Edema disease of piglet is a kind of infectious disease caused by Escherichia.coli. E.coli that causes the edema disease of piglet is called Shiga-like toxgenic Escherichia.coli ,the common serotypes are O138:K18, O139:K82 and O141:K85, O98, O121, O147, O157. Cultured on blood agar, SLTEC shows hemolytic ring of Btype, and it isn't significantly different from other E.coli in shape, staining, culture property and biochemical characteristic. This disease can happen in all seasons and is an enzootic disease. Piglets suffering from edema disease become extremely excited at initial stage, with the development of the disease, thediseased piglets become dispirited, despressed, dull, unsteady, incoordinate, paralytic, obviously dropsical in eyelids, unappetive in the later stage. In recent years, this disease has been increasing and it has caused enormous losses in pig industry in our country. There are a lot of serotypes in SLTEC and E.coli is drug-resistant so easily that it is difficult to a certain degree to prevent and cure this disease In this paper, the epidemiology of edema disease of piglets was investigated in north area of Anhui province, and the dominant serotypes of SLTEC were identificated.1 23 strains Escherichia coli were isolated and identified from the piglets suffering Edema disease in the north area of Anhui province by gram's staining and biochemical reaction. The serotypes of 23 strains Escherichia coli were identified also by the O antigen monovalent diagnostic serum of Escherichia coli, and the dominant serotype strains are O141,O139,O137 and these three serotype strains are 86.9% of all isolated strains. Drug susceptibility test showed that these isolated strains were highly sensitive to to Cefoperazone, Chloramphenicol, Enrofloxacin, Doxycyclinum, Nitrofuantion, but were highly drug-resistant to other anti-biotic and chemical drug.2 Detailed epidemiological investigation to edema disease of piglets in north area of Anhui province was carried out.The results showed that edema disease of piglets is sporadic in the north area of Anhui, the incidence rate of this disease is 0.69%-2.14%,mortality 0.21%-0.90%, and the morbility 18.0%-46.0%.The disease often happens in spring and autumn ,and at the age of 30-90 days. Hemolytic E.coli is the pathogen of edema disease of piglets, but the hygienic condition, feed, management, trace elements and emergence factors all are relevant to this diseae 3 A kind of multivalent inactivated vaccine against Edema disease of piglet was prepared using the local advantageous serum type E coli, the 15-day-old piglets were inoculated by the inactivated vaccine, and compared the immune protection with the commercial vaccine against Edema of piglet,the piglets of control group were not inoculated.The results showed that the multivalent inactivated vaccine against Edema disease of piglet of local strains could supply effective immune protection against Edema disease of piglet,and there was significant difference in lethal rate between the inoculated group by multivalent inactivated vaccine and control group.
