The winter wheat is the main food supplies crop, while drought is the biggest limitation to yield. Drought-resistance of winter wheat is a complex character; it is very useful to identify cultivars' drought-resistance capability. Our study was carried out in the experimental station of Institute of Environment and Sustainable development in Agriculture, CAAS during 2005-2007. We studied some morphological, physiological and bio-chemical indexes in different growth stage of 6 winter wheat cultivars with different drought-resistance ability. We expected to find feasible drought-resistance identification method. The results show:1. In seedling stage, some morphological indexes including the length of coleoptiles didn't show any correlation with drought-resistance capacity. However, some indexes, including root activity, soluble sugar, soluble protein content, CAT, SOD, POD, do show correlation with drought-resistance capacity.2. In water stress research, leaf SOD and POD activity of strong drought-resistance cultivars were improved under water-stress compared with weak drought-resistance cultivars. After water recovery, the strong drought-resistance cultivars recovered its leaf SOD and POD activity more quickly than weak drought-resistance cultivars. Leaf soluble sugar accumulated in all cultivars and its drought-resistance index show the same trend with drought-resistance cultivars, while soluble protein content didn't show this sequence, the same with leaf CAT activity.3. Compared with control, it is feasible to use drought-resistance index to identify cultivar drought-resistance capacity.4. Carbon isotope discrimination (CID) is significantly negative correlated with cultivar drought-resistance capacity. CID is a good identification index for cultivar drought-resistance.
