60 native broad-leaved tree species in the trial sites of outskirt forest park in Maofengshan, Guangzhou, were studied in this paper, also suitable tree species were suggested be selected for reforestation on their growth speed. 2 reforestation types of plantations of Acacia mangium and 3 ones of plantations of Eucalyptus urophylla were studied. The studies evolved the growth speed of tree species for reforestation, biodiversity, water-holding capacities of leaf litter, physical characteristics, soil nutrition and microbe.The major results of the study were summarized as follows:Among the 60 native broad-leaved tree species in the trial sites of outskirts forest park in Maofengshan, the fast-growing tree species included Castanopsisfissa,Aleurites moluccana,Castanopsis hystrix,Cinnamomum burmanii,Sapium disolor,Vernicia Montana,Mytilaria laosensis,Schima wallichii,Pterospermum heterophyllum,Pterocarpus indicus,Delonix regia,Scnima superba,iquidambar formosana,Myrica rubra,Camellia oleifera,Rhodoleia championii,Michelia chapensis,Camptotheca acuminata,llex rotunda,Cleidiocarpon cavaleriei,Artocarpus heterophyllus,Bischofia javanica,Bombax ceiba,Dracontomelon duperreanum,Ficus altissima,Ormosia pinnata,Mangifera persiciformis,Acmena acuminatissima,Chukrasia tabularia,Celtis sinensis,Michelia macclurel,Erythrophloeum fordii,Tutcheria championi,Gordonia axillari,Tectona grandis,Dolichandrone,canda-felina,Michelia maudiae,Kopsia lancibracteolata,Aquilaria sinensis,Cassia siamea,Khaya senegalensis,Pithecellobium clypearia,Cinnamomum camphora and Vatica mangachampoi. These forty-four tree species were indicated to be fine quality ones for Forest Park vegetative construction.The reforestation results of the induct plantations of Acacia mangium and Eucalyptus urophylla in Huolushan indicated that, planted as the dominant tree species, Castanopsisfissa grew fastest, Vernicia Montana,Scnima superba,Cinnamomum burmanii,Delonix regia and Camellia japonica grew faster, Cinnamomum camphora grew slowest. The associated fast-growing species was Acacia auriculiformis, Michelia macclurei,Lophostemon confertus, Bauhinia blakeana,Ilex rotunda,Cleistocalyx operculatus,Vernicia montana and Schima superba grew relatively fast, Cinnamomum camphora,Erythrina crista-galli,Cinnamomum burmanii,Michelia maudiae,Castanopsi chinensis and Symplocos paniculata had the middling growing speed. Albiziafalcataria grew very slow.There were certain early effects on the reforestation of plantations of Acacia mangium and E. urophylla by planting native broad-leaved tree species. After the plantation reforestation, species diversities under tree layer increased to different extend, so did the evenness of communities; the litter storage, maximum water-holding capacity, maximum modified interception amount and the effected modified interception amount were larger than the control trial sites; the soil structure became better, so was the soil capillary porosity and capillary characteristics, the soil became more porous; the soil nutrition increased dramatically, no matter the nutrition or the total N, P, K and available N, P, K all enhanced; Microbial amounts also increased significantly, although soil fungi and actinomyces amounts in some individual reforestation trials were less than control trials, however, the total amounts of soil bacteria, fungi and actinomyces were larger in every reforestation trial sites. In all, the reforestation showed significant effect in bettering the soil structure, enhancing soil nutrition, promoting nutrition cycling and increasing microbial amounts.
