There are about sixteen million hm2 winter-free paddy fields which are notutilized in the region of south in China. Peasants will be able to increase their incomeif these fields can be made good use of. It is suitable to develop the industry of wintercrop for potato. To gain the yield and quality of potato in winter-free paddy fields ofsouth region, three experiments on the selection of variety, growth method andfertilizer for balance were made respectively, so that they maybe supply some usefulinformation for agriculture production.1 Comparative experiment of potato varietiesThe results indicated that Favorita was a superior cultivar in the aspects ofseedling emergence rate, growth vigor, anti-disease capability, yield and commodity,and it could product fresh potatoes 3 199.4 kg per 667 mE, its commodity rate addedto 93.58ï¼…. It was suitable to the climate of Hunan region, so Favorita should begrown as an excellent cultivar in a larger area. In addition, 9903 was also a goodpotato variety .The yield of potato increased 19.09ï¼…per 667 m~2, compared with thepotato variety Dongnong303, and the yield of 9903 was high significantly higher thanthat of Dongnong303. It had a strong resistance and good integrated characteristics.But it couldn't be considered as a processing variety because of its high reducingsugar content and low starch content. 9903 could be grown as a fresh edible variety.2 Study on the comparative experiment of growth methodsThe growth method mulching with plastic film was superior to the other threegrowth methods in the aspects of seedling emergence rate, growth vigor, yields andprofits. The yield of potato with plastic film mulching increased 4917ï¼…, and therevenue per 667m2 increasedï¿¥512.2 compared to the growth method of nomulching. The growth method of straw+plastic film mulching could not increase theyield and the yield reduced 16.0ï¼…when mulching with straw only.3 Study on the different fertilization of potatoPotato is an agricultural crop which needs plenty of fertilizer. The result showedthat the best treatment is 75 kg fertilizer for potato per 667m~2. It is very good in theaspects of seedling emergence rate, growth vigor, yield and commodity. The yield of potato is 1 945.4 kg per 667m~2 which increased 24.1ï¼…. The second is 100 kg fertilizerfor potato per-667m~2. The yield of potato is 1 923.2 kg per 667m~2 which increased22.7ï¼…. And the worst is 50 kg fertilizer for potato per 667m~2. Compared with CK, itdecreased 3.55ï¼…. The content of Vitamin C increased when added the fertilizer forpotato. But the content of starch would not be increased; it had only something withpotato variety. The principle as follows: plenty of base fertilizer, making good use oforganic fertilizer, avoiding using a lot of chemical fertilizer. Pay attention to fertilizesome nutrition which contains Mn, Zn, Si, etc. In some developed region, potatoshould be fertilized some fertilizer for potato according to the content of nutrition inthe soil. These organic fertilizers not only change the texture of soil, but improve theyield and quality.
