Sunflower male sterile line in this sutudy was received by cytoplasmic replacement of maintainer line, which can be looked as near-isogenic lines except of cytoplasmic genetic variation. Research showed that CMS had been closely related with expression of mitochondria gene. Protein is the product of gene expression and the executive of biological function. Infertility had also directly reflected in the differences of protein expression. Therefore, if the protein expressed differently in a particular period and particular tissue between the sunflower male sterile line and maintainer line were found, it could lay the foundation for studies of sunflowers CMS.Protein expression has characteristics of tissue-specific and time-specific, It is the first title and key to identify the period of expression of protein associated with the male sterility. The specific period about study sunflower CMS protein was determined by morphological observation and cytological observation, namely, prophase of pollen formation.Sunflower cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) proteome was studied in this paper. This study chose flowers of CMS and maintainer as experimental materials, protein of which was analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis and IPG analysis system. Compared with maintainer line, there were more obvious differences in protein expression of CMS. 16 obviously different protein points were detected, the expressions of eight proteins were increased, the expression of two proteins were reduced, one was loss, five appeared in electrophoresis photos. Blast by the protein database query showed that eight protein were found, which may be associated with the CMS and energy metabolism; And sterility of CMS pollen may be related to the expression of the protein ATP so that normal metabolism were destructed.Five protein associated with sunflower male sterility were found, the mechanism of sunflower male sterility could be studied by integrating the functions of these proteins, and the gene associated with these proteins could be found, then the reasons of CMS could be found essentially.
