After using the technology of SSH and Race-PCR , the full-length cDNA of Brassica napus small nuclear ribonucleoprotein ,named BnSmD1 , was obtained. It possessed 484 base pairs containing an open reading frame (ORF) of 354 bp which encoded a predicted protein of 118 amino acids with a molecular weight of 13kDa. The BnSmDl protein shares two highly conserved Sm fold (Sm-1 and Sm-2) and a C-terminal RG dipeptide repeats. Northern blot results expressed that BnSmD1 expressed in all tested organs in B. napus ,but the transcript level in early floral buds was much higher than that in leaf and stem tissues. No expression difference was observed in leave and stem tissues between Apet33-10 and Pet33-10 , nevertheless , compared to wild type ,the expression of BnSmD1 in the early floral buds of apetalous mutant Apet33-10 was declined obviously. All these results suggest that BnSmD1 play a vital role at the early stage of flower development and may have an influence on petal development.
