Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée) is an important pest attacking maize, sorghum and cotton. The newly hatched larvae often damage leaves of the host plant and the older bore into the stalks and the fruits, which results in a poor yield of different hosts. There was a approximately 10% reducing yield of maize in general years, and even the loss of maize reached 30% Asian corn borer infesting seriously. The biology and rearing techniques was studied in Asian corn borer and the life table of experimental population of Asian corn borer was set up. The main research items and the results are as follows:1. A new prescription more suitable for growth development and reproduction of Asian corn borer was found. The main components are maize flour 8.60%, soybean flour 8.60%, Vc 0.29%, agar-agar 1.15%, yeast powder 5.16%, sorbic acid 0.29%, glucose 4.30%, water 71.61%.2. Under the condition of (26±1)℃, RH76%, 16L/8D, the intrinsic rate of increase (rm), finite rate of increase(λ), net reproduction rate (R0), mean generation time (T) and double population time(t) of Ostrinia furnacalis (Guenée) laboratory population were 0.047, 1.049/d, 513.050,4.231d and 14.633d, respectively.3. A significant difference was found between male pupa weight and female pupa weight. The weight of Male pupa is from 0.0642g to 0.0701g and that of female pupa between 0.093g to 0.1024g on the basis of 95% probability. So, the gender of pupa can be infered by its weight.4. The colony raising is more suitable to the growth development of Asian corn borer than single rearing. Under the condition of colony rearing, there are of obviously shorter life span (41.98d) and double population time (9.95d) than those under the single rearing (55.40d and 15.85d respectively). Meanwhile there was of a greater intrinsic rate of increase (0.07) than that of the latter (0.04). Moreover, pupating rate (71.33%), emergencing rate (89.80%) and survival rate (64.00%) of ACB under the colony rearing (44.66%,78.25% and 34.60%) were all better than those under single rearing. Under the sufficient space and the suitable foodtuff, Asian corn borer seldom takes place fratricide. So we cann't consider the fratricide under the room raising. 5. The parameter of population reared by apple, including the intrinsic rate of increase, the finite rate of increase (λ) was declined. The mean generation time (57.3310d) had prolonged. The net reproduction rate (1.8933), intrinsic rate of increase (0.0111), finite rate of increase (1.0112) were declined.6. There is a notable relationship between the gross protein content and the temperature. The hightest gross protein content of each instar was emeraged at 26℃, while the lowest were 17℃and 35℃. The gross protein content of each instar had not obvious difference in the different temperatures. The gross protein content reached the hightest at each temperature at 4 instars.
