In this study, a description of the detail of the design and implement of a Integrated Forest Decision Supporting System (IFDSS) which based on stand dynamics model 3-PG is given.The major results of this study are: (1) In the process of designing and implementing IFDSS, by involving knowledge and techniques of computer programming, software engineering, Human-Computer Interface (HIC) design, data exchange (XML) and Virtual Reality (VR). We also try to explore how those knowledge and techniques can contribute to the development of forest dynamics modeling system. (2) To the structure of IFDSS. By breaking down IFDSS into four subsystems, the complexity of implementing and maintaining had been reduced. (3) 3-PG is employed as the stand dynamics modeling core component of IFDSS. IFDSS is the first step of introducing 3-PG model into Chinese forestry research. (4) IFDSS implements its I/O data format based on XML, which enhance its interoperability with other systems in a considerable extends. (5) The visualization subsystem of IFDSS, FViS offers user an intuitive way to explore the output of the modeling system. (6) Based on verification testing, the simulation outputs from IFDSS highly reflect the dynamics of the target stands.IFDSS offers the process of decision making in forestry with scientific references and substantial supports.
