Mulberry mosaic stunt disease is one of the main prevention diseases in silkworm industry. This disease occurs in Huzhou, Jiaxing of Zhejiang province and was also found in Jiangsu, Anhui, Sichuan province and Chongqing area. The disease causes a symptom with the trunks of mulberry were small and shorted, and the leaves of mulberry were stunt, and it causes the amount and quality of the mulberry leaves decreased, affecting the cocoon production. With big area of the cocoon industry revolution, the new planted types of the mulberry were more sensitive to the disease. Hence, it became one of the most serious diseases in the areas of Zhejiang and Jiangsu province. Because the disease occurs at the time for the trunks of the mulberry cutting in summer, the infection is close related to the wounds by the scissors for clipping. The spread happened when the pathogen was not well controlled and the risk was up for the extent of the disease in a large area.In this study, by the tests of the occurance of the disease in Huzhou area and anti-disease, the rules of the harm and spread way of the disease were revealed, the anti-sense to the disease mulberry types were primary identified, the studies in the disease protection and control were developed. It provides the gists to the industry. The pathogen of the disease has the characteristic of viroid by molecular methods, and the partial sequence of the viroid molecule and the biochemistry characteristics were testified. The method can be used in detection of the pathogen in mulberry. This work will be useful to determind the structure of the pathogen and to control the disease in cocoon industry.
