Fertilized eggs, larvae and pupae of worker honeybee of Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica were used to study the changes in respiratory metabolism at 34.5℃. Furthermore, the respiratory metabolism of workers' sealed brood were determined under different temperatures. The results showed as follows:(1) Oxygen consumption were almost the same between fertilized eggs of Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica. it increased with the growth and develop-ment of eggs, there were two valley-points formed when the fertilized eggs developed for 26 h and 44 h,. The oxygen consumption, however, in Apis cerana cerana was obviously higher than that in Apis mellifera Ligustica. The egg of 26 h just finished their differentiation, at which time the embryo finished its early development. The egges of 44 h were the time when the germ basically formed and prepared to shape. These results demonstrated that the respiratory metabolism was controlled by the internal physiological factors during the development of eggs from Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica.(2) Oxygen consumption, carbon dioxide release volume and metabolic rate in worker's larva and pupa of Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica were almost the same. The respiratory metabolism was low at the pre-pupal stage and high when molting.(3) The respiratory quotient of larvae and prepupae in Apis cerana cerana was 0.838, 0.870 in Apis mellifera ligustica; the respiratory quotient of pupae in Apis cerana cerana was 0.760, was 0.770 in Apis mellifera ligustica.(4) The metabolic rates were decreasing with the body weight's increasing at larval stage,.it was non-correlated significantly at pupal stage.(5) The sealed brood of workers of Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica were fostered at 37.5, 36.5, 34.5, 32.5 and 30.5℃, respectively. The developmental duration shortened with the increasing of temperature. The developmental duration of Apis cerana cerana was 16, 13, 11, 10 and 10 d, respectively, the developmental duration of Apis mellifera ligustica was 16, 13, 12, 11 and 11d, respectively.(6) The oxygen consumption and metabolic rate of sealed same age worker brood of Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica increased with the temperature increasing. When the temperature reached 36.5℃and 37.5℃, the greatest effect was obtained on oxygen consumption of the brood workers in Apis cerana cerana and Apis mellifera ligustica, respectively.
