Traditionally, soil moisture, illumination and temperature in forest and other relative factors are considered as the key items in forest natural regeneration, forest trees'allelopathy has not been focused on even the allelopathy phenomenon is widely existed in plant relationship and confirmed by many re-searches. Fewer relative complete studies on forest tree autointoxication can be checked up. A tempta-tion of autointoxication of Cryptomeria fortune tree has been tried in this paper, and the study area is sampled in Western TianMu Mountains, natural reserve of state.In the experiment, the state of soil seed bank of Cryptomeria fortunei was inspected by the field sampling and its capacity of regeneration was tested by seed germination nursed in electronic controlled incubator, the testing period was from October to next year's April, the seed falling to seed germination; The allelochemicals in the litter were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC), and the allelochemicals were identified by the bioassay. The results showed as follow:1. The seeds of Cryptomeria fortune lay in the undecomposed litter layer and humic substance layer mainly. And the type of seed bank can be classed as a short term type, which the seed viability can only last in one year. There were no vital seeds in the soil bank after the spring germination. The further re-alty, on the other hand, is failed of the natural regeneration, i.e. no natural germinated seedlings.2. The allelochemicals decompounded from Cryptomeria fortunei litter can significantly influence the seed germination of Cryptomeria fortunei, restrained in high concentration and some promotion in low. The order of intensity of affection was"undecomposed litter > semi-decomposed litter> soil".3. The allelochemicals extracted from the Cryptomeria fortunei litter are ferulaic acid (FA), cinnamic acid (CA) andρ-hydroxybenzcic acid (β-HA). And the bioassay showed they all have the function of restraining seed germination of Cryptomeria fortunei.To sum up, the fortune of seed germination of Cryptomeria was controlled by its litter allelochemi-cals, a new evident of autointoxication and a great influenced factor in Cryptomeria fortunei natural regeneration.
