Xinjiang has vast territory, various climates and diversiform geographical landscape. There are numerous kinds of host animals and media insect species which will cause more types of arbovirus diseases. In addition, the boundary in Xinjiang is long, many countries border on it. There are many ports and important highways, rails and airports open to the neighboring countries.West Nile fever and West Nile encephalitis caused by West Nile virus(WNV)is maintained in a natural transmission cycle involving mosquito vectors and bird reservoir hosts, with the fatality of 4%-11%. Although no case of the disease have been reported in China, enough attention should be paid to the possible presence of WNV inefetion due to existence of potential vectors and animal hosts. In recent 10 years, several strains of Togaviridae Alphavirus have been isolated in XinJiang which has provided theoretic foundation for our country to institute preventing and controlling measures on epidemiology. Most of the ten hundreds cephalitis cases occur in XinJiang every year can not be clearly diagnosed. The virus cause cephalitis, especially the ones directly isolated from patients′serums prompt us that crytic pathogen do exist in our country. So serum epidemiological investigation on related virus to find the virus-related diseases on the evidence being carried out rapidly is particulary important. The Lyme is disease, the intermediary agent of the lyme disease are ticks and hematophagus which play important parts in the spread and popularity of the lyme. However, in recent years few epidemiological investigation on lyme disease have been done.In this study, focusing on the invasion of West Nile virus and the the risk of epidemic in China and according to the national study status quo on WNV, epidemiological investigation of WNV infection was carried out in Xinjiang area China. In order to ascertain the condition of West Nile virus in mosquitos of Xinjiang from July to October in 2005-2007,16000 mosquitoes were collected from different regions of Xinjiang .In experiment, the total RNA from 16000 mosquitoes were extract in order to detect the presence of West Nile virus with RT-nestPCR methods; In order to ascertain the condition of Alphavirus with RT-PCR methods ; To investigate the infection of lyme disease in Xinjiang, we investigated the human, cattel, sheep serum with ELISA methods. The WNV test results from the mosquitos collected in different regions of Xinjiang were negative, the result showed that there was no Alphavirus in the samples;by detecting to the 641 portion of sheep serum,326 portion of cattle serum, and 415 portion of human serum,it was found that the serum lyme disease antibody masculine rate of sheep, cattle and human was 47.1%,13.8%,9.39% in order, and the two areas were both infected by the lyme disease, and animal masculine rates overtop the human′s,this explains that two areas have the lyme disease ecology characteristic. The result showed that there is no West Nile virus in the samples. Although we can not speculate on whether there is West Nile virus in Xinjiang, at least this has important public sense and social benefit for establishing the active defending policy on different animals and human beings in Xinjiang area and the whole country, The result of investigation discovers that the every age group has been infected in different degrees by lyme disease, especially the young adult. This is mainly because of the more outside activities and long time bared in ticks. The study on lyme disease nosetiology and clinic in related areas are expected to be further carried on.
