Medicago ruthenica belongs to Medicago L., Leguminosae, which is widespread in north China. It is a forage with good quality , it has the excellent resistance to cold and drought stress. Six accessions of this species were identified and evaluated on biology, cytology, drought-resistance and nutrition levels in the study to select the better materials for breeding and utilization , The results are as follows:1. The biological characters of six accessions were observed and analysed that plant height, thousand-grain weight, fresh weight/ dry weight had marked differences; the characters of leaf (leaf type, the colour of leaf, hair covered on blade) had little differ- ences. Leaf with longitudinal and transverse was the principal leaf type. Aqua leaf was principal in the colour of leaf of six accessions, there were hairs covered on blade for most accessions. Per days to mature of the accessions collected from Shanxi of were deferred, whole days to mature kept 139d,growth period kept 151d,the days to mature was later than other accessions about 2~12d,the growth period was longer than other accessions about 3~9d,whole days to mature and growth period of the accessions of collected from Mongolia were shortest , and days to mature and growth period were 127d and 143d respectively.2. 6 accessions were intimidated and investigated on relative germination rate, relative germinative energy, vigor index and length of radidel/ length of plumple by PEG drought-resistance. Subordinate function were utilized on 6 access- ions for suring the sequence of strong and short of relative drought-resistance. The results showed that, the accession cellectd from Inner Mongolia Tuyouqi〉the accession cellectd from Mongolia〉the accession cellectd from Mongolia Tongliao〉the accession cellectd from Tabet Zhada〉the accession cellectd from Shanxi qinshui〉the accession cellectd from Liaoning.3. 6 accessions were intimidated and investigated on RWC, MDA contents, Pro contents and chlorophyll contents by drought-resistance. Subordinate function were utilized on 6 accessions for suring the sequence of strong and short of relative drought-resistance . The results showed that, the accession cellectd from Inner Mongolia Tuyouqi〉the accession cellectd from Mongolia〉the accession cellectd from Mongolia Tongliao〉the accession cellectd from Tabet Zhada〉the accession cellectd from Shanxi qinshui〉the accession cellectd from Liaoning.. 4.The results of identify of cytology showed that : the number of chromosome of Medicago ruthenica L. was 2n=16, its karyotype belonged to the type of 1A, the karyotype forluma was 2n=2x=16=16m, the value of NF was 32, As·K was 52.13%, the number of chromosome and karyotype forluma of wild yellow type Medicago ruthenica L were same as the Medicago ruthenica, but its karyotype was 1B, the value of NF was 32, As·K was 54.13%.5.The results of nutritional components showed that,①The nutrition value of the accession collected from Mongolia was best, its CP content was highest(25.23%)and CF content was shortest(21.33%), it had more marked differences than other accessions in nutrition②In principal components of nutrition, the first principal component included CP, CF and NFE, the second principal component was EE, the third principal components was ASH. The cumulative contributes percentage of them was 92.16%, these results may reflect the good and bad of nutrition of 6 accessions.6. The results of integrated analysis showed that, the materical collected from Mongolia is good in drought-resistance and nutrition.
