During The loess Altiplano arid or half-arid region, We take two kind primary crop Spring wheat as subject to research the relation between water using efficiency and seed yield of two Spring wheats varieties-the landrace Monkhead and modern variety Longchun8275 under PVP experiment method and field method. Testing the yield, water using efficiency, photosynthesis rate, declining chlorophyll content of flag-leaf and competitive ability of two spring wheat variety, We get several conclusions as follow:1. In order to adapt he arid or half-arid environment, the evolved spring wheat which possess of many redundancy characters have better ability to acquire water. But it devour too much water of the soil. so that the water using efficiency and harvest index is low.2. The photosynthesis rate of the two spring wheat have negative relation of water content of soil. The landrace Monkhead's photosynthesis rate is lower the modern variety Longchun8275, it indicate that change the inheritance character of photosynthesis can improve the yield. Declining chlorophyll content of flag-leaf have the different infection between the two varieties. The modern variety rely on the content of soil water more than the Landrace variety.3. The Landrace variety Monkhead use more soil water, but the water using efficient is low. During the arid region improve the water using is a effective method to increase the yield, so that water is still the primary factor which restrict the yield of arid or half-arid region. Appropriate aridity can increase the water using efficiency and harvest index so that the efficient method to increase the yield of arid or half-arid region is cultivating less redundancy characters, high water using efficiency, adapting exceeding unstable entironment and reasonable irrigating.
