The study aimed to characterize the difference and significance of difference of fiber from different boll-node based on phenotyping the fiber quality properties of fiber sample from different boll-node of several cultivars.The analysis on fiber quality trait data from c.v.Zhongmiansuo 44 in two years would make the effect of year(annual weather) clear;the analysis on fiber quality trait data from six cultivars in one year would characterize the rule of the comparative superior or poorer fiber quality properties of fiber from different boll-node on a cotton plant.The data of c.v. Zhongmiansuo 44 in two years indicated:for 1st to 4th boll-node on the same fruit-branch,the more distant from the stem the more poorer fiber quality;for 1st to 12th fruit-branch on a plant,the more high from the root the more poorer fiber quality. The fiber quality differences were significant(at p<0.05 or p<0.01) for six traits,i.e. fiber length(upper half mean-UHM),micromere(MIC),fiber strength(STR), elongation(ELO),color(COL) and spinning-uniformity(SPU) in two years,as indicated that the different year resulted in the difference of fiber quality(perhaps due to the effect of different annual weather.The data from six cultivars in the same year showed that:(1) the difference on quality properties of fiber from different boll-node is hybrid pest-resistance(HyPR) cultivars>homozygous pest-resistance(HoPR) cultivars>pure-line(PL) cultivars.The coefficient of variance(CV) of individual trait is:44.98%for MIC,33.47%for COL,21.78%for SPU,15.24%for STR, 11.14%of reflectance(Rd),8.90%of UHM,7.15%of ELO,4.50%of fiber uniformity(FU);(2) the more distance of boll-node from the stem,the more short fiber,reduce MIC,poor STR,low FU and Rd,but high ELO and COL.For fiber from distant boll-node from the stem,the SPU decreased for HyPR and HoPR and not for PL.(3) Based on the data of fiber from 1st and 2nd boll-node in every fruit-branch of six cultivars,the UHM,FU,STR,MIC,Rd were superior for the fiber from 1st to 5th, but gradually poor for 6th to the highest fruit-branch.This indicated that the fiber from lower fruit-branch is more superior than that from higher fruit-branch.(4) For every fruit-branch,fiber from 1st boll-node was more superior than that from 2nd boll-node. The difference of fiber quality between 1st and 2nd boll-node is significant for MIC. The result show that "the fiber-sampling from the middle and inner boll-nodes" would result in the value floating of the testing on the fiber quality properties,and then result in the discrepant conclusions.Based on this study,the fiber from 1st boll-nodes in 1st to 8th fruit-branch was uniformly more consistent and more superior than that from other boll-nodes.So,it was proposed that "the fiber-sampling from 1st boll-nodes in 1st 8th 8th fruit-branches" was important,which increased the veracity and facilitated the comparison among the High Volume Instrument(HVI) cotton Fiber Properties.
