Traditional tree volume measuring methods mainly are per foot wood seized,angle gauge, total stations and temporary plots investigate,which often requires a large number of samples selected trees,measuring the diameter at breast height,tree higher parameters artificialy.These methods are laborious and time-consuming,labor intensity is particularly large,relatively low measurement accuracy,therefor the model building based on the date or other analysis will be limited,resulting in the accuracy and reliability of forest resources measurements has been greatly impacted.The rapid development of modern science and technology enable measurement technologies produce a revolutionary advancement.Traditional surveying and mapping equipment use with micro-electronics technology,computer technology and communication technology to make measurements to the automation,intelligent and integrated development. In recent years,with the development of long-range three-dimensional laser scanning technology,the technology can be truly carried out directly from the kind of three-dimensional inverse fast data acquisition and model reconstruction,no need for any physical surface treatment,the laser point cloud of each three-dimensional data is a direct target of the real data acquisition,data post-processing makes completely true and reliable.Due to technical breakthroughs in the traditional single-point measurement method,its most prominent feature is the high accuracy,high speed,close to the prototype,becoming one of the hot research currently at home and abroad.The chapter first introduces the working principle of three dimensional laser scanning system:The scanner is made up of a fast and accurate laser range finder coupled with a set of laser-guided to the speed of scanning mirrors and a digital camera and a GPS.The error of three-dimensional laser scanning system comes mainly from the error of temperature,pressure and other environmental conditions outside of the apparatus caused by minor,angle and distance measurement errors caused by rotating shaft,as well as the rotation of mirror-induced ranging error.Then comparative analysis on Scanning data and felled tree data,Using threedimensional laser scanning system to scan the tree,gain tree hight and diameter at breast height, so as to get standing volume,and compared with felled trees.Based on the relationship scatter of scanning tree height,diameter at breast height and standing volume,in accordance with the distribution of scatter characteristics,to establish volume model.Comparative analysis made from the above we can see that the scanning Tree Volume data can replace the traditional methods of the Tree Volume measured data,in subsequent investigations of forest resources,the scan data can replace the traditional methods of the Tree Volume measured data,made standing volume table is no longer required field a large number of logging,we can use three-dimensional derived from laser scanner directly to replace the traditional model of standing volume table,save a lot of manpower,material,financial resources and enhance efficiency.The application of three-dimensional laser scanning technology for Determination of Tree Volume can better avoid the shortcomings of the traditional method,in the near future,the digital measurement of Forestry has a broad application prospects.
